Default optimization report from google

I noticed a new report in my account this week. Not sure if others have been receiving it or it is brand new for everyone. But it was only for last month April and it was called Optimization Report.

When I read it, it listed reasons for possible poor performance and ways that were suggested to make more money.

One of the problems said I did not have enough ad units on my site. It said most of my sites had only one and since we were allowed three, I should review my sites.

I have kept a low number of ads on my sites thinking it would look awful but it seems we are being encouraged to do more.

I am thinking about adding more but wondered what others do?

That is interesting. I received a different but similar report from Google. Actually it was a request from Google asking me if I would like to participate in an optimization study. I replied back saying I would, and they noticed that I run a lot of forums and gave me suggestions for improving the click through rates. I was a little bit suspicious at first as Google hardly ever sends me emails and thought it might be one of those Nigerian email scams lol

You can use up to three ads per page. Though personally I have found I make more money with two ads per page because the highest paying ads gets shown that way. If you have three ads it will display the lower costing ads as well. It is best to put your ads in the first half of the screen, anything below that gets less click through rates.

Yes, I agree, too that usuing too many ads is somewhat a waste. I think the click through is higher when you limit the ads. This way people are served highly targetted ads and they might click because it is relevant.

If they see too many ads, they may just say, there is nothing on the page, even though you have good content.

I got the same report you are talking about and mine basically says that I am filtering too many competitors. Well the thing is the ones I filtered were not competitors - they were scams - and I have no intention of making any money good or bad off scams.

I want my users to have a positive experience when they come to my sites and I don't care if I lose money by filtering the junk.
