For those that run a serious internet business and have a real product or service to offer - that is they started the website to promote their own expertise or hobby, it is usually more profitable to use affiliate programs.

If your site compliments the affiliate program and people trust you, you will be able to convert your visitors to sales. In the long run, you will make more money from that one click in commissions than if you had been paid by the click itself.

But anyway, when I first started promoting adsense, I only put a few ads here and there to pick up money that was being lost. I mean if someone wasn't going to buy from me, I may as well get something.

But I think it has actually diluted my sales. If the person can go to a competing site and by-pass my products, I think I am shooting myself in the foot.
